Happy New Year, guys and girls!
Now that the songs have been sung, the Christmas tree’s back in it’s box and I finally have some time to myself again, it’s time to start blogging. Did you all have a good Christmas/New Year? Any gaming stories you want to share?
Here’s what I’ve been up to!
Modded Megadrive/New Controller
Look, it glows orange!
I managed to snag this for £25 on ebay. The orange power light is cool, but the real feature is a switch on the rear that can flick between 50 and 60hz! This may not mean much to most of you, but now I can run games from Japan and America! Combine this with one of the flash carts I mentioned earlier, and I can now play any game ever released on this system worldwide! I’m so excited to try all these different games for the first time – and I get to play them with this:
I saw a Youtuber review this controller and he sold me on it within the first 2 minutes. It looks just like an official controller, feels just like one too. Yet it costs around half the price and is brand new! He mentioned that Hyperkin bought the rights from Sega for the controller design, and I think he could be right. This is the best third-party pad I’ve ever used, and enough buttons to play every Megadrive game properly. Super chuffed!
So – Every game playable on the system, a top class controller to play them with AND super sharp graphics from an RGB SCART cable….. on an old school CRT TV!!!!!!
Needless to say, I’ll be pumping out some megadrive gameplay videos soon.
Dead Rising 4
If anything could tear me away from retro wonderland it’s the antics of Frank West, in a brand new Dead Rising adventure. I’ve been struggling to fit time in on the single player mode, and interestingly, all my time has been spent in online Muliplayer! There are several different mission objectives and there’s a lot of friendly competition and banter between the four of us. This time around you’re free to travel all over the map, a far cry from earlier games which insisted online players enter and exit each room together. There are challenges to complete and bosses to conquer
Discovering new combo weapons and even the occasional vehicle of doom, Dead Rising has been a lot of fun so far. The only downside so far has been connection issues, being kicked out midway through a game is the last thing you want to happen, and not being able to get back in is frustrating as hell!
We have started broadcasting our games online via Twitch, you can catch us kicking ass at my good friend Harry’s channel https://www.twitch.tv/bluedrag580
I got a couple of Spectrum games I’ve been after for a while, Jetpac and Atic Attack, made by Ultimate Play the Game. They’re all-time classics on the system, and I can’t wait to try them out. Let’s just hope the cassettes load properly!
Re:Conquest is a brand new game available on Steam, and it’s modelled after the mighty Command and Conquer series! Build your base, train your army, manage your resources…. apart from a steep difficulty curve, this is old-school war and I love it!
After all that…..Glad to be back! Any feedback is welcome, suggestions and comments are welcome. I’d like to thank the new followers I’ve picked up over the Christmas break and I’ll see you all soon!
